About Us

The Association Culturelle Islamique (ACI) is a cornerstone of Islamic cultural life in Strasbourg. Since our founding in 1994, we have been dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of Islamic culture, supporting the spiritual and educational needs of the community, and promoting intercultural dialogue. Our commitment is to serve as a bridge between cultures, nurturing respect, knowledge, and cooperation among all people.

Our History

ACI was established over 30 years ago by a group of individuals deeply committed to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of Islamic culture. At the time, there was a growing need for a structured organization that could provide educational resources, cultural programming, and a welcoming space for the Islamic community in Strasbourg.

From modest beginnings, the association quickly grew in scope and influence. Our founders sought not only to offer cultural events and religious education but also to encourage interaction and understanding between different communities in the city. This vision continues to guide us today.

Our headquarters, located at 56 Place Petrarque in Strasbourg, has become a vibrant cultural hub where people gather to learn, celebrate, and connect.

Our Mission

The mission of the Association Culturelle Islamique is to promote Islamic culture and values while fostering mutual respect and understanding in a diverse society. We are committed to:

  • Preserving and sharing the historical and cultural heritage of Islam
  • Providing educational opportunities for all ages
  • Encouraging dialogue between different cultural and religious communities
  • Supporting the spiritual growth and social well-being of our members
  • Promoting peaceful coexistence through cultural exchange and cooperation

Through our work, we strive to break down barriers, dispel misconceptions, and build a more inclusive and harmonious community.

Our Vision

ACI envisions a society where cultural diversity is not only accepted but celebrated as a source of strength. We believe that understanding each other’s traditions, values, and histories enriches all members of society.

Our vision includes:

  • A community where Islamic culture is recognized and appreciated for its contributions to arts, sciences, philosophy, and social ethics
  • An environment where people from all backgrounds engage in open and respectful dialogue
  • Educational programs that empower individuals with knowledge and critical thinking
  • Strong partnerships with local institutions, cultural organizations, and educational bodies
  • A sustainable future where cultural heritage and innovation go hand in hand

We are dedicated to realizing this vision through ongoing initiatives, outreach, and community involvement.

Our Activities

The Association Culturelle Islamique offers a diverse range of activities designed to engage different audiences and fulfill our mission. These include:

  • Cultural Events: Art exhibitions, music concerts, traditional celebrations, and festivals that highlight the richness and diversity of Islamic culture.
  • Educational Workshops: Classes and seminars on Islamic history, religious studies, language, calligraphy, and philosophy. These programs are tailored for children, youth, and adults alike.
  • Lectures and Conferences: Presentations by scholars, intellectuals, and cultural leaders who explore topics related to Islam, intercultural dialogue, and contemporary issues.
  • Community Gatherings: Social events and meetings that strengthen community bonds and encourage participation and volunteerism.
  • Youth Programs: Special initiatives aimed at young people to help them connect with their cultural roots while navigating their place in modern society.

By offering this wide array of activities, ACI aims to provide meaningful opportunities for learning, reflection, and cultural expression.

Our Community

ACI’s strength lies in its diverse and vibrant community. Our members come from many cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds, reflecting the rich tapestry of the Islamic world. We welcome people of all ages and walks of life, united by a shared interest in culture, education, and spiritual growth.

We also extend a warm welcome to non-Muslim friends and neighbors who are interested in learning about Islam and fostering intercultural understanding. Through our open-door approach, ACI serves as a meeting place where people can exchange ideas, build friendships, and work together for a common good.

Our Values

The foundation of our association is built upon core values that guide every aspect of our work:

  • Respect: Honoring the dignity of every individual, regardless of background or belief.
  • Tolerance: Encouraging acceptance and understanding across cultural and religious divides.
  • Education: Promoting knowledge as a key to personal growth and social harmony.
  • Community: Fostering solidarity and mutual support among members.
  • Cultural Heritage: Preserving the traditions, arts, and knowledge that form the basis of Islamic culture.
  • Peace: Committing to non-violence, dialogue, and reconciliation in all interactions.

These values are intertwined with the ethical teachings of Islam and serve as the guiding principles for ACI’s programs and initiatives.

Our Partnerships and Collaborations

ACI recognizes the importance of working collaboratively to achieve its goals. Over the years, we have established strong relationships with various local and regional institutions, including educational organizations, cultural centers, and community groups.

These partnerships enable us to extend the reach of our activities, share resources, and foster a broader culture of inclusivity and understanding. We regularly participate in interfaith forums, cultural festivals, and educational networks to promote shared values and build bridges between communities.

Governance and Leadership

The association is managed by a dedicated board of volunteers who oversee the planning and execution of programs and ensure that ACI remains true to its mission and values. The leadership team is composed of individuals with diverse expertise in education, culture, community development, and administration.

ACI also benefits from the active participation of its members, who contribute their time, skills, and ideas to strengthen the association and support its activities.
